The Information Literacy Tutorial is designed to supplement your course material, connecting students with library resources that will enhance their understanding of course content and improve their work.
Information literacy is the ability to: identify when outside information is needed, locate that information, assess its relevance to the identified need, utilize the information to meet the need, and convey the information effectively.
The tutorial consists of seven modules, each designed to stand alone to facilitate easy integration into your course. They can be completed in any order, and you can include any number of modules in your course, when and where you need them.
Library Search Strategies: Introduce students to the resources available to them through the Library
Explore a Topic: Start the research process strong by developing a topic through the use of background research
Research Strategies: Understand the ins and outs of using ROOsearch and databases
Evaluation of Print Sources: Demonstrate the basics of evaluating information found in books and other printed materials
Evaluation of Online Sources: Demonstrate the basics of evaluating information found on the internet
Citing Sources: Understand the basics of citing sources and the definitions and consequences of plagiarism
Use the Discover tab in Brightspace to enroll in the Information Literacy Tutorial - Faculty Version to view all modules. Assess what would be most helpful to your course and download the course package as provided. Follow the directions provided in Brightspace to integrate elements into your course.
Do you want students to complete the entire tutorial? Ask them to self-enroll in the student version. After students complete all modules and assessment components, they will receive a certificate of completion. They can download the certificate and submit to you for credit.
