Southworth Library at SUNY Canton provides many resources, but no library can have it all. That's why we advocate for broadening your horizons and signing up for cards at other libraries! This section of the guide reviews five libraries that you can access for free just by signing up for a card. We provided the most relevant information to help you sign up, but we encourage you to reach out to the individual library if you have further questions about the process.
Join these five libraries:
- North Country Library System
- If you are a student living on campus you can sign up for a North Country Library System card, and you can do so online. You can access digital library services like Libby right away. Make your way into town to the Canton Free Library and pick up your physical library card to start checking out materials and to access further digital library services like Hoopla and Mango.
- NCLS encompasses libraries in Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence and Oswego counties. All residents of these counties can sign up for a library card and access materials from across the system.
- New York Public Library
- NYPL serves Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island, but is accessible to anyone who lives, works, attends school, or pays property taxes in New York state. Apply for a free card and gain access to digital services like Libby.
- Brooklyn Public Library
- Anyone who lives, works, attends school, or pays property taxes in New York state can apply for a free card at BPL and gain access to digital services like Libby.
- Queens Public Library

- Queer Liberation Library

As a free digital library, all that is required for membership is a U.S. mailing address.
