Southworth Library is committed to assisting students in lowering their textbook costs. The library maintains many physical and digital (when available) versions of current textbooks. These textbooks are available for short-term loans to students. To see if your books are available for the current or future semesters, please review the lists linked above. Please check back regularly for updates as additional resources and lists are added as faculty select books for their courses.
If your book is not available through the Southworth Library, you may also be able to borrow it through one of the following sources at a lower cost than purchasing it:

How do I find out if the library has the textbook I need on reserve?
The easiest way is to use the textbook lists linked above. They are in order of subject and class number or you can "Ctrl + F" to search the entire sheet.
You can also search using Roosearch.
How can I borrow a textbook from the reserves collection?
SUNY Canton students and faculty/staff may borrow textbooks from the reserves collection using their college ID card. You'll need to know the complete title of the textbook. Please visit the circulation desk with the complete title and edition and a staff member will retrieve it for you.
If the book is available as an eBook you will find the link on the lists above or by using Roosearch. If you are off-campus, you may need to log in using your universal campus username and password (same as BrightSpace).
How long can I borrow a textbook from the reserves collection?
Physical textbooks are available for a loan period of two hours at a time. Physical textbooks may not leave the building. E-book loan periods vary, but usually just require you to log back in to keep using them.
What happens if I keep a reserves textbook longer than the loan period?
If you need to extend your loan period, please visit the circulation desk to request an extension. If another student is not waiting for the book, your time may be extended. If you fail to return the book at the end of your loan period, your ability to borrow additional library materials will be blocked until the book is returned.
It's important that you don't allow anyone else to use your ID or account because you are liable for any items checked out in your name. If a library item is not returned, you will be charged the full replacement value of the item plus a processing fee.
How can I request that the library purchase my textbook for the reserves collection?
To make a request to add a textbook to the collection please contact us at library@canton.edu. Keep in mind that the library selects books for purchase based on factors such as course enrollment, modality, and textbook cost.
Can I donate my textbook to the library?
Yes! The library welcomes textbook donations. If you'd like to donate a textbook, please drop it off at the circulation desk. Note that donated textbooks become property of Southworth Library. Thank you!
