Government Agencies:
- Council for Environmental Quality - CEQ coordinates federal efforts to "improve, preserve, and protect America’s public health and environment." As the agency responsible for implementing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), CEQ also works to ensure timely and robust environmental reviews and permitting for infrastructure projects.
- National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) - NREL is a national laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy, with multiple national centers, research programs and research facilities. They produce a number of data tools and publications on renewable energy topics.
- Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. U.S. Dept. of Energy - The U.S. Department of Energy website offers viewers sources of information on renewable energy generation, energy-saving homes, buildings, and manufacturing establishments, and sustainable transportation. Also provides recent news and events on energy efficiency issues.
- Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources - The legislative activity of this committee covers the following major areas: energy resources and development, including regulation, conservation, strategic petroleum reserves and appliance standards; nuclear energy; Indian affairs; public lands and their renewable resources; surface mining, Federal coal, oil, and gas, other mineral leasing; territories and insular possessions; and water resources. The website has information about jurisdiction, subcommittee, members, committee transcripts, and press releases.
- U.S. Department of Energy - The Department of Energy manages the United States' nuclear infrastructure and administers the country's energy policy. The Department of Energy also funds scientific research in the field. It is the parent agency for the Energy Information Agency, and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
- U.S. Department of Energy. Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) - "OSTI.GOV is the primary search tool for DOE science, technology, and engineering research and development results and the organizational hub for information about the DOE Office of Scientific and Technical Information." Search for renewable energy or use specific keywords such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric.
- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency - The EPA protects human health and the environment by writing and enforcing environmental regulations based on Congressional laws, studying environmental issues, and set national environmental standards. The website covers a wide range of topics, such as chemicals and toxics, water, and climate change. It also lists environmental laws and regulations by business sector and by topic.
- U.S Energy Information Administration - The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) collects, analyzes, and disseminates independent and impartial energy information to promote sound policymaking, efficient markets, and public understanding of energy and its interaction with the economy and the environment.
Organizations:
- American Clean Power External - American Clean Power is a federation of renewable energy companies with the goal of making clean energy the primary power source. Their website includes reports, whitepapers, and fact sheets.
- American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) External - ACEEE is a non-profit that works toward harnessing the full potential of energy efficiency to achieve greater economic prosperity, energy security, and environmental protection in the United States. The site offers portals with industry specific energy efficiency information, research publications and consumer resources on energy efficiency.
- American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) External - Founded in 2001, ACORE is a national organization that "unites finance, policy and technology to accelerate the transition to a renewable energy economy." Their website describes the initiatives they support, along with relevant publications.
- American Energy Society External - An association "dedicated to the advancement of abundant, affordable and safe energy," they publish a variety podcasts, maps, industry news, and reports such as Energy Matters and Energy Today. Some data and intelligence reports require membership.
- Energy Storage Association External - ESA is "the national trade association dedicated to energy storage, working toward a more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and affordable electricity grid—as is uniquely enabled by energy storage." Their website has overviews of energy storage benefits, applications, and specific technologies. They have a variety of industry reports and resources, and cover relevant federal legislation and policies.
- Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change External - "The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change." They release regular, detailed reports on climate change.
- International Carbon Action Partnership External - "The International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP) is an international forum for governments and public authorities that have implemented or are planning to implement emissions trading systems (ETS)." Two main tools on their website are the Allowance Price Explorer and the ETS Map.
- International Energy Agency (IEA) External - Although IEA was started in 1974 to respond to oil supply distrubtions, they have since expanded to examine "full spectrum issues including renewables, oil, gas and coal supply and demand, energy efficiency, clean energy technologies, electricity systems and markets, access to energy, demand-side management, and much more." Their website has official energy statistics from more than 100 countries collected on a monthly or annual basis, analyses by industry sector or technology, and energy-related policies.
- International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) External - IRENA is "an intergovernmental organisation that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a centre of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy." Their products include renewable energy capacity statistics, cost studies, benefit studies, technology briefs, and other assessments.
- OurEnergyPolicy External - A non-profit that facilitates non-partisan dialogue between energy experts from every sector to "sharpen distinctions, identify points of consensus, and stimulate innovative solutions in our energy policy." OurEnergyLibrary aggregates publicly available fact sheets, journal articles, reports, studies, and other publications on U.S. energy topics.
- Renewable Fuels Association External - The ethanol industry trade association works to "drive expanded demand for American-made renewable fuels and bio-products worldwide." Their website contains resources on markets and statistics, an annual industry outlook, fact sheets for consumers, retailers, and producers, and relevant policies.
- Resources for the Future (RFF) External - RFF is an independent, nonprofit research institution. Their scholars and partnering researchers publish journal articles, reports, briefs and explainers on environmental and resource economics topics. They also have data tools such as the carbon pricing calculator, and carbon pricing bill tracker.
